Very contagious to adults.
Symptoms:
A continual complaint as to the need for names, dates and places. Patient has blank expression, often deaf to spouse and children. Has no taste for work of any kind except feverishly looking through records at libraries and courthouses. Has compulsion to write letters, swears at the mailman when he doesn’t leave mail. Frequents strange places such as cemeteries, ruins and remote desolate areas. Makes secret night calls. Hides phone bill from spouse. Mumbles to self and has a far away look in eyes.
NO KNOWN CURE….
Treatment:
Medication is useless. The disease is not fatal but gets progressively worse. Patient should attend genealogy meetings, subscribe to a magazine and be given a quiet corner in the house where they can be alone. The usual nature of this disease is that the sicker the patient gets the more they enjoy it!

I had a good breakthrough a few weeks ago, after years and years of searching, courtesy of the FreeBMD site.
My Maternal Grandfather’s older sister, Eleanor Maud “Nellie” YATES, seems to have been a bit of a black sheep and according to my Mom was never spoken of in the family. In fact Mom said she was into her teens before she even knew she had an Aunt. The only photo we had of her was as a 5 year old. (see left)

Thomas Addiss was born on the 30 January 1899 at 6 Lime Street, a small terraced house in Coppice, Sedgley, Staffordshire. He was the only son amongst the 9 children of Josiah and Julia Addiss (nee Caswell), my 2 x Great Grand Parents. His eldest sister Julia was my Paternal Grandmother’s mother.
He died on the 21 March 1918, just 19 years, 1 month and 22 days later near the village of Beugny during the battle for the Arras region of the Somme in nothern France. He has no known grave.
The fourth Battle of Arras was fought in March 1918. It began when German armies under the command of General Karl von Bülow, in a last ditched effort, attempted to break through the Allied front near Arras. The Allied armies were forced to retreat in a sector north of Arras, but the attack exhausted 15 German divisions. General Haig considered the German offensive a failure.
Thomas enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment at Bilston, Staffordshire, (Private 41852)
