Mark Tucker, publisher of the ThinkGenealogy blog, today awarded Legacy Family Tree version v7 with the ThinkGenealogy Innovator award. He wrote, “when the innovator award is presented for software innovation, it is for a specific feature. The innovative feature that is being recognized today is Legacy 7’s source citation templates following Elizabeth Shown Mills’ Evidence Explained: Citing History Sources from Artifacts to Cyberspace.“

The Church of Latter Day Saints, also commonly known as the Mormons, have recently released a “Pilot” website for seaching births, marriage, deaths, censuses and many other records. The greater part of the project is currently based on US data but hopefully in the near future more non-US information will be added.
Find Your Ancestors on Record Search : Search millions of indexed records for your ancestors. Browse through images of records waiting to be indexed. More records are being added every month. Record Search is still under development. This release is considered a PILOT. This means that at times Record Search will not be available while we add additional records and improve some features.

FindMyPast have extended the beta test period (which was due to end yesterday) for a few days into the Christmas holidays - you should keep an eye on the 1911census blog to get updates on exactly when it will finish. However, do not wait too long - the beta site will not be available for much longer.
They have added 22 full counties to the beta site since last week, bringing the total number available to 26. There is a full list of the counties available on the blog or you can see them easily by looking in the “County” dropdown menu on the Person Search page on the site.

Doug Cox’s “Simple Family Tree” is a great little piece of Freeware that enables you to create and/or view a family tree quickly and easily. It displays ancestors and descendants of any selected individual (it reads and writes files in Gedcom format). You can enter notes, events, a second name, and marriage details for each individual.
- Note! The link to download the program is at the very bottom of the the Author’s webpage.
Highly recommended.
